Salomon X Ultra 2 GTX Review: Tough, Nimble, and Aggressive

Salomon X Ultra 2 GTX is the beast of the trails. In this Salomon X Ultra 2 GTX review, we are going to take a look at one of the best high-functioning hiking shoes that offers great toughness, agility, and aggressive traction. The lightweight and streamlined design will encourage the user to pace up, whereas the superior traction will easily eat up any terrain. The waterproofing is impressive, having a high flood level and excellent water repellency. Although it may be stiffer than some other shoes in the category, it is still comfortable even after many miles on rough trails.

Comfort
Salomon X Ultra 2 GTX fits snugly on the sides. It hugs the foot very well, and the interior padding ensures that you can stay aggressive and comfortable over miles of rocky trails. It simply crushes down rough terrains without sacrificing your comfort. It is also very lightweight, allowing you to move swiftly and confidently. Out of the box, it may feel a little stiff, but the comfort gradually increases after some time. However, note that the snug fit may make a challenge to people with wide feet; consider ordering a slightly larger size if you have wide feet.

The Quicklace system has both lovers and haters. The Kevlar laces are able to slide easily through the eyelets without much friction, allowing you to adjust the fit as precisely as possible. It is very easy to pull and tighten the laces. However, some people have complained that the Quicklace system may get loose as you walk. But this is actually not a problem. The laces will not snap open if you have tied them properly. The “loosening” effect is the way of the system to eliminate pressure points. The upper has excellent breathability.

Protection
The overall foot protection provided by Salomon X Ultra 2 GTX is excellent. The toes are protected by a thick rubber piece, which protects from not only stones and impacts but also slippery snow and loose sediment. The upper has a leather section which provides enhanced protection on the sides. However, the ankle protection is not impressive. It is not bad, as it supports the ankle pretty well, but it is not particularly great either.

Salomon X Ultra 2 GTX is equipped with the Gore-Tex waterproofing. The water resistance is excellent. It will ensure that your feet will not get soaked in water puddles and mud. It has a higher-than-average flood level.

Traction
Salomon X Ultra 2 GTX is equipped with the proprietary High Traction Contagrip outsole, featuring multiple deep lugs with varying edges for multi-directional traction on any surface. It will give you great, reliable traction on any terrain. Mud, wet rocks present no problem, and it can also climb uphill in snow with minimal slippage. The stiff outsole is not the best on dry rocks, but it can do.

Salomon X Ultra 2 GTX is an excellent choice if you are looking for a lightweight and nimble shoe that can tackle all trails with uncompromising traction. The protection is also very good, although the ankle protection is just on the average level. It is equipped with full Gore-Tex waterproofing that is breathable.
