New Balance 1260v4 vs 1260v5

New Balance’s running shoes have become the primary choices of many runners who need more cushioning and support. Sometimes, the regular sole is not enough. Some people with specific conditions, such as knee or joint pain, need thicker soles and more cushioning on their running shoes. The thicker padding will help in reducing road impacts, allowing you to run without pain. Now, we are going to discuss two of the latest New Balance models, which are New Balance 1260v4 and New Balance 1260v5. So, what is the difference between these two running shoe models?

Upper
New Balance 1260v5 is indeed the newer, updated version of New Balance 1260v4. At first, you may not notice the discrepancy, but there is a major difference on the uppers of these two models. The upper of New Balance 1260v4 has a large, broad no-sew overlay that wraps the midfoot area from side to side, along with bands under the mesh that keep your foot in place. However, all those things have been removed and replaced with the sturdy stitched-on overlays and no-sew FantomFit overlays on New Balance 1260v5. As the effect, New Balance 1260v5 can be much more supportive and durable, at the same time giving more room in the toe box.

The mesh of New Balance 1260v5 is also more open and more breathable than the mesh of New Balance 1260v4. So, your feet can be more comfortable and less sweaty. Take a note that New Balance 1260v5 is quite heavier at 1.3 oz than New Balance 1260v4, which is just 0.6 oz.

Cushioning
New Balance 1260v5 is still very identical to New Balance 1260v4 in this aspect. The new model still has the asymmetrical heel counter to control overpronation and prevent your ankle from rolling inward too far. It also still uses the same N2 midsole cushioning that is well-balanced, as well as the Absorb crash pad under the heel for superior shock absorption at heel strike. Well, there are some slight changes; the medial post of New Balance 1260v5 goes shorter and the T-Beam midfoot shank now fully fills the midfoot. As the effect, New Balance 1260v4 may have slightly more pronation control, but New Balance 1260v5 offers more gradual overpronation stopping and slightly better stability.

Sole
New Balance 1260v4 has lots of cuts in the rubber sole, but few flex grooves. Hence, New Balance 1260v4 can be a little bit too stiff to most runners. On the other hand, New Balance 1260v5 now has larger rubber compartments and more, deeper flex grooves. Plus, it also has a hexagonal pattern right under the ball of the foot. These improvements have made New Balance 1260v5 more flexible.
