Mizuno Wave Sayonara 2 makes a solid choice for neutral runners who prefer a lightweight option with superior stability, responsive ride, and sufficient cushioning. It may not be what you need if you are looking for thick cushioning or pronation support, because it is a neutral shoe. Mizuno Wave Sayonara 2 is more suitable for long-distance and up-tempo runners. It makes an excellent choice for racing because the lightweight nature allows awesome acceleration and speed.
Out of the box, Mizuno Wave Sayonara 2 is aesthetically pleasing. The graphics on the shoes feature hypnotizing waves of warm colors. The pair of shoes looks cool and stylish. Well, Mizuno Wave Sayonara 2 is available in several color variants, such as Turbulence Black (which has yellow waves), Black/Blue, White/Black (which has a reddish sole), and White/Dazzling Blue/Vibrant Orange. The black models are particularly elegant, whereas the white variants are more similar to your typical training shoes.
Mizuno Wave Sayonara 2 does not change much from the original model produced by the company some time ago. It is still very light, and it provides superb stability as a result from the excellent ground contact. People who loved the original will certainly love Mizuno Wave Sayonara 2, too. Compared to the original, though, Mizuno Wave Sayonara 2 has a somewhat smoother ride and is more comfortable.
The upper of the shoe is made from synthetic leather, combined with a spacer mesh material. There are some PU overlays that function to maintain the shoe’s structure when running and maneuvering, ensuring that the shoe will never let you strain your ankle when turning on a corner. The upper is very lightweight, and this is a great factor if acceleration and speed are important factors for you.
Meanwhile, the midsole features the compression-molded U4IC EVA foam with Pebax parallel heel Wave plate. The midsole is somewhat firm, but still pretty cushy to allow heavy runners to run without any problem. The best thing about the midsole is the smooth ride it provides. The EVA foam and the Wave plate integrate to each other very well to create a smooth heel-to-toe transition. It is also very responsive, and it lets you feel the road for stability and confidence. There is a removable foam insert that adds a degree of cushioning if you need some more to prevent joint pain.
The outsole is made by combining several materials. Under the heel, you can find the harder part of the outsole, featuring the carbon rubber X10 pad that is highly durable and has great traction. It is virtually resistant to slipping. Meanwhile, the front side of the outsole consists of fabric-mounted grip lugs and the softer blown rubber for better grip and stability.
