Mizuno Wave Rider Review: Light, Breathable, and Highly Supportive

Mizuno Wave Rider is one of the most popular neutral running shoes on the market. It is one of those shoes that you may have found quite frequently on the streets as you watch your neighbors run and at local races. Of course, there are reasons behind its incredible popularity, besides the affordable and budget-friendly price. The best feature that Mizuno Wave Rider offers is its great combination of comfort and support. It is light, breathable, and flexible enough to allow convenient maneuvers. But the sole is highly stable and supportive. Nevertheless, because it has been engineered for neutral runners, Mizuno Wave Rider does not have any enhanced support on either side.

The overall appearance of Mizuno Wave Rider is greatly appreciated by many runners. It looks sporty and stylish. It is also available in various colors. The upper is made from a combination of textile and synthetic materials to create a durable layer that is also flexible. This shoe has very good flexibility, enabling you to turn around and maneuver easily and comfortably. As you can see, Mizuno Wave Rider has a breathable upper with a good number of pores.

The number of pores is just sufficient to keep the inside fresh without being excessively porous. The tongue and collar are just long enough to create a snug fit, without enveloping the foot way too much. Both the tongue and collar as well as the interior are well-padded. Inside, there is a removable insole that makes the platform softer and cushier a bit. You can remove the insole for easy cleaning. Mizuno Wave Rider is quite a lightweight shoe, and the lightweight nature will make it very easy for you to accelerate and run at your top speed. (Read also: Mizuno Wave Rider vs Asics Cumulus)

The midsole of Mizuno Wave Rider combines the all-new Cloudwave technology with the U4IC midsole cushioning foam. The Cloudwave technology creates a very good layer that absorbs and attenuates road impacts, allowing for smooth landing and smooth heel-to-toe transition. The U4IC midsole cushioning foam helps to enhance the shoe’s response and durability. The midsole is highly stable and supportive. It delivers very good ground contact, allowing you to run with full power and confidence without worrying about spraining. However, you should note that Mizuno Wave Rider is not very soft. Smooth, yes; but the midsole is definitely not the cushiest. Therefore, Mizuno Wave Rider may not be suitable for you if what you are looking for is a shoe that can reduce joint pain.

- Synthetic sole - Shaft measures approximately 2.75" from arch - In this style if the word "W" is placed before the number it refers to "Women's"

The outsole of Mizuno Wave Rider has been designed very well. The outsole is made of rubber, and it has numerous deep sipes that create extra biting edges. The outsole has been divided into several areas to focus the support on the forefoot and heel. It has excellent traction and grip for confident running on the road without slipping. It still has decent biting on the road even if the road is wet and slippery.
