Mizuno Wave Paradox Review: Outstanding Stability, Excellent Breathability

If you are familiar with Mizuno’s shoes, you may have noticed that Mizuno Wave Paradox has a lot of reminiscence about the old Mizuno Wave Alchemy. However, Mizuno Wave Paradox is a newer, more modern model that has been created by implementing various advanced technologies to give you the most stable and reliable running shoe. Below, we will meet Mizuno Wave Paradox 3, which is currently the newest model in the line. Compared to the older models, it is apparent that Mizuno Wave Paradox 3 has been re-tooled and re-imagined. So, how good is Mizuno Wave Paradox 3? Is the shoe worthy enough for your money?

The special thing about Mizuno’s Wave shoes is that they come with Wave plates in their midsoles. Mizuno Wave Paradox features a slightly tweaked Wave plate compared to the predecessors. It still has the three-up-three-down design, but the wave is split at the midfoot area under the shoe. As the effect, the full-length plate only reaches to opposite sides of the forefoot of the shoe, leaving a “gap” at the center. So far, Mizuno Wave Paradox is the only model from the company that features such design. Meanwhile, on the heel area, Mizuno Wave Paradox features two small ports for lateral compression and shock dispersion at heel strike. (See also: Mizuno Wave Paradox vs Inspire 10)

The U4ic foam in the midsole is segmented to enhance flexibility – a very helpful feature for a stability shoe, which tends to be stiff. There is also the U4ic X foam throughout the entire heel area to provide heel cushioning. Obviously, Mizuno Wave Paradox is a very comfortable shoe

On the upper, you can see that Mizuno has decided to stay with firmly stitched overlays without any heat-pressed overlays. That’s great; stitched-on overlays tend to be sturdier than no-sew overlays. The upper is made from mesh and synthetic. It is rugged and breathable, allowing the foot inside to stay fresh and cool after extended running. The overlays on the midfoot area feature multiple ribs to create a solid fit and structural integrity. Meanwhile, the heel overlays include the shoe’s name, wrapping in medial and lateral directions for solidity. The overall design looks very cool and stylish.

Mizuno Wave Paradox is available in multiple color variants. There are Black/Sky Blue, Black/Skydiver, Grey/Green, and Quarry/High Risk Red/Black models. The sizes available are from 7 to 16 D (regular width) US. There are EE (wide) models available at select sizes.

Under the shoe, you can find a sophisticated outsole consisting of two parts. The rear side features the resilient X10 carbon rubber. It goes over the entire heel toward the midfoot. Then, from the midfoot to the forefoot is a softer blown rubber. The combination creates excellent performance. The harder outsole o the heel creates smooth ride and transition, whereas the softer front side of the outsole provides the traction needed.

All in all, Mizuno Wave Paradox is an excellent stability shoe. The shoe provides great stability and support. It is fairly lightweight, despite the apparent look. It is quite soft and comfy inside.
