We’ve come again to compare the best shoes in the market. After talking about some big brands like Adidas and Nike, we go a little deeper to explore the shoes from Asics. If you’re unfamiliar with it, Asics is the company between the famous GT 1000, known as one of the best entry-level running shoes.
What is amazing about Asics is that they can deliver top quality shoes, even with a budget price. This sure seems promising for a lot of people. Since its founding back in 1949, the company has committed to bring a bright future for the youth through sports.
Their known motto, ‘Create Quality Lifestyle Through Intelligent Sport Technology’ has been carried for years now. With the same vision and mission, they bring innovative shoes that could satisfy a wider range of market.
Now that we’re in the topic, Asaics has a lot of shoe choices. Some of them being Asics GT 1000 and 2000. Now people may find themselves pretty confused now, asking what’s the difference between the two.
Looking at the design, we can understand that not much was put into the style. They have the same patterns, only different in colors. One looks brighter than another. One seems to be fit for young adults, and the other is for the general market.
You need to know that GT1000 is considered an entry-level shoe. It’s not surprising that it has a very nice price tag, surely many would love to buy it. Though carrying the entry-level status, it’s still comparable to GT 2000, which is one step higher.
GT2000 is in the mid-range stable, often regarded as a comfortable pair with moderate support and balanced price. Everything seems too moderate in the sentence, but what does it feel like in the actual reality?
Since they are both considered as “affordable”, price wouldn’t be a troubling issue here. The shoes are nice to have for people who have a limited budget. They can go straight away for GT 2000, or staying with GT1000 that’s only 20 dollars more affordable. How big of a difference is this 20 dollars?
As mentioned before, GT2000 is often considered as a moderate running shoe, and often regarded as popular shoes in the medically-posted shoe market. It’s an upgrade for the already-perfect GT1000. So how can they upscale something that’s already good?
The original GT 1000 is budget friendly running shoes. Though it seems little in price, the shoes are packed with lots of features and comfort. Definitely a great pickup for people who want to do a long run for the very first time. Read also: Brooks Adrenaline vs Asics Kayano.
Meanwhile, GT 2000 is generally a moderate trainer. It’s more durable, and more stable as well. But unfortunately, its red flags kind of stop it from being a better choice over GT 1000. But the shoes are still a big recommendation for those who want more durable shoes that can be used for months or years.

Now let’s take a look at the first part of the shoes, Sole Unit. Both of the shoes have the same midsole, which is the FlyteFoam. The only difference is the version of the foam. GT 1000 uses the FlyteFoam Lyte, which is already considered to be very durable and light as well. But, GT 2000 uses a better FlyteFoam Lyte that’s softer than before. This gives more better support and comfort for the wearer, especially for the long runs.
About stability, each one gets a plus point. They carry the same technology, which is the DuoMax Support SYstem which is the wedge that functions to reduce overpronation. Guidance Trusstic System that makes sure that midfoot is rigid enough. The combination of both technologies make the shoes more stable and rigid.
About the Gel Unit, which is to give shock absorption, GT 1000 only has one in the rear foot, while GT 2000 has a complete set in rear and forefoot.
Both shoes have plenty of rubber on them. GT 1000 has the AHAR system that’s placed in the forefoot part. It’s hard on the outside, but softer inside the forefoot. GT 2000 gives an even better AHAR+ which is more durable and stronger in general, and uses the AHAR in the forefoot part, instead of using the usual rubber. That makes the outsole of GT 2000 lasts longer than GT 1000, technically speaking.
The Sole Unit is great, but how about the upper sole? It looks like both of these shoes, once again carry similarities. The GT 1000 shoes have a special mesh that’s flexible, very light, and very breathable. It’s firm and tight at first, but stretches and starts to loosen up after some runs. However, the shoes are still true to the size. You can pick from three sizes : regular, wide, and extra wide.
On the other hand, GT 2000 also uses the special engineered mesh that has the same characteristics. But, it feels more expensive than the one in GT 1000. It has narrow fit, so you don’t have to make your feet narrower when wearing it. The shoes also come with three different sizes to pick.
Asics GT 1000 vs 2000
Now which one of these is better for you? The answer always depends on your needs. GT 1000 and GT 2000 may be good for your specific needs. If you consider yourself a newbie or new user of running shoes, then probably picking GT 1000 won’t hurt you. It costs better, and comes with just every aspect you wanted from a pair of running shoes. It’s affordable, but still packs with its unique specs and features.
GT 2000 is more suitable for long runners, who already know what to expect. The shoes have an extra forefoot gel unit for better shock absorption, plus the extra AHAR sole to increase the already strong durability. Though it’s more expensive, around 20 dollars or less, every penny is worth it.
So, pick the one that’s suitable for you. Always remember to try them first before you buy. Almost all shoe stores are good with this, as long as you do mention it.
